The Process.

My role is to curate a balanced list of best-fit colleges to explore and consider and then work with students to craft an authentic application that reflects their best selves.

I begin by getting to know students and their families. After a brief meeting to ensure we’re a good fit for each other, I suggest a short list of local campuses for families to visit. Next, students complete a comprehensive survey designed to help them:

  1. Identify their ideas about college, including their hopes, goals, attitudes, and perspectives.

  2. Highlight application strengths and areas in need of improvement.

  3. Assess their readiness for college.

I then review the student survey, in addition to one completed by parents, and schedule a longer meeting to discuss what I’ve learned. By the end of this stage, I have a strong sense of a student’s and family’s needs and priorities and can begin building a list of potential best-fit colleges.

While students and their families explore their unique lists of potential colleges, I begin working with students on the application itself, starting with individualized workshops for personal statements and supplemental materials. With over two decades of teaching experience in advanced college writing, I am an expert at working with students from idea generation to the final, polished essay. Through one-on-one guidance, I ensure a student’s writing reflects their independent effort and engages admissions readers in their authentic stories.

I want students’ applications to reflect the best of themselves. To that end, I also review extracurricular activities and test scores, and provide guidance on whom and how to ask for letters of recommendation.
